Bramham Park Fun Run

Warm up to the Bramham Park Fun Run

With just a few days to go until the Bramham Park Fun Run (2 October), Martin Shaw of Martin Shaw Fitness at Thorpe Park Hotel and Spa shares his top tips for fitting in some last minute training.

Here are Martin’s suggestions:

1. Plan your training by working out how many days you can train and prepare a nutritious food programme to support you.
2. Make sure that you're supple before any jog or run with a warm-up programme which includes a range of movements and rotations of your joints.
3. Depending on your fitness level, start with 10 to 15 minutes of walking, jogging and running and then listen to your body - is there any pain in your knees or body?
4. Plan a route for your jog or run so it lasts about 15 to 20 minutes. And then try to shave off a couple of minutes each time you complete your route.
5. Always cool down after your exercise. Walk for about 5 minutes to bring your body temperature down, and stretch off your calves, hamstrings and quads, holding each stretch for 10-20 seconds until you feel a lengthening of your muscles.
